Sickle Cell Disease Patients are the strongest human being living on earth

#My_mind: Do you know Sickle Cell Disease Patient are the strongest set of people living on earth. While I was young, I had no idea what sickle cell disease was but I know they were referred to as "sicklers". I get scared when I know anyone is a sickler (reason for being scared is unknown), I didn't make friends with them, I didn't play with them and I called them eggs because they aren't strong at all (bad me), all these actions towards sickle cell patients were as a result of not knowing about the Disease condition and all these continued till I finished secondary school. On getting to higher institution, first time I got to know that there was a sickle cell patient in our hostel scared me and I was like what's all this. It was during this period I saw the way sickle cell disease patient struggled to survive, the crisis, the pains, the emotional distress and psychological impact of the disease, the physical deformity etc. Well aside from learning about sickle cell disease in class as a student Nurse, I thought I could get close to the sickle cell patient and know more (the breakthrough). The breakthrough because I understood everything about sickle cell disease through the person I made friend with and how I could ease the person's pain. Ever since, I have loved sickle cell disease patients and can do anything to make them comfortable. It isn't their fault they are given birth to like that, so why must they suffer so much stigma and pain alone when I can assist in my own little way?? The sickle cell disease truly have limit to what they can do but they are still the strongest of all being. The constant pain, fear of death, emotional pains which exist from childhood till adulthood and all through their lifetime really made them the strongest because I can't imagine myself surviving such. IT'S WORLD SICKLE CELL DISEASE DAY TODAY THEY A DESRVE A BETTER LIFE THEY ARE STRONG THEY ARE INDEED SPECIAL I LOVE SICKLE CELL CLIENTS ALL OVER THE WORLD SICKLE CELL CLIENTS NEED LOVE, CARE AND UNDERSTANDING. In my three years of marriage and what I have seen of marriages around me, I have come to realize that every day is an opportunity to celebrate love, foster understanding, practice forgiveness, and make sacrifices. Yesterday, I discharged a very demanding patient home. As she was about to leave the ward with her daughter, she called me over for a hug and expressed her gratitude. She told her daughter that I was a good nurse and was happy that I was part of her care team throughout her hospital stay. This gesture hit me differently, and it motivated me to do even more for my patients. As an adult with family responsibilities, I have come to realize that my profession is not just a job but a source of sustenance. I have learned to prioritize my role as a nurse above every thing I was actively doing before having a family, and the appreciation from patients like this one means a lot to me.
