THE FATE OF THE POOR by Olabanji Joel

This is indeed a hard time in the world, a time where no one knows what will happen when all these ends, lock down of states and countries going on around and all these are to curb the spread of Covid-19 but what's the fate of the poor? In a country like Nigeria, there is something which kills more than covid-19 but has not been tackled aggressively, let me say it has been handled with neglect and that is "HUNGER". Movement restrictions, states lock down, businesses are shut down, many personsTHANKS.lost their source of livelihood to this government policies. The reasons behind the policies has been made known to all and it's accepted because it's the only way to stop the pandemic but "what is the fate of the poor" who feed from hands to mouth daily? How will they survive? Some of these people even have illnesses unattended to because they are too poor to pay hospital bills so all they can do is just to work so as to be able to eat everyday and wait for the day death will come but is the death not closer even with the restriction? (So sad here) The question right now is how will people who have no savings survive this period? How would the poor persons who couldn't afford to stock their homes before the movement restrictions and lock down due to lack of funds survive? Won't they be forced outside to get what they will eat?!! Well they will die of hunger anyways if they refuse to go out to do something because a common man in this country has no hope of surviving tomorrow. Funds has been released but will it get to the common man??!! Relieve food and materials are coming in but will a common man benefit from it??!! Many poor persons in Nigeria today don't have a bank account because they have nothing to do with the bank while some who opened sometimes now have it as a dormant account because they have nothing to save since all they get is just something to keep them going for the day, so even if a relieve fund is to be sent using BVN how many poor persons will benefit from it??! What's the fate of the poor in a country where the elected people still bought cars using the public fund at a time like this? A period where a global recession is perceived to be inevitable!! The fate of the poor in a country is being determined by the government but it's so painful we have no working government in Nigeria, we only have rogues and selfish people that capitalised on poverty to get to the position they are. Ha, I cry for the nation where the heroes past laid down their lives for the future so that it can work, this is the same nation where the current leaders now destroys the future so that they can enjoy their today. WHAT IS THE FATE OF THE POOR WHO HAS NO HOPE OF GETTING WHAT TO EAT AND HAS BEEN FORCED TO CLOSE DOWN WHERE HE/SHE GETS HIS/HER MEAGRE INCOME? WHAT IS THE HOPE OF A COMMON MAN IN NIGERIA??! ANSWER: THE FATE OF THE POOR DEPENDS ON HIS ABILITY TO GO OUT AND WORK FOR HIMSELF DESPITE RESTRICTIVE POLICIES AND BELEIVE THAT HE WILL NOT GET INFECTED WITH THE DIESEASE THANKS.........
