COVID-19 VS MAN INHUMANITY TO MAN by Olabanji Joel
I was sent various videos today and I couldn't look away. I am always for a better life for everyone and it saddens my heart to see how humans treat ourselves in this part of the world.
Covid-19 might record a lesser death rate compared to the number of deaths our inhuman act would cause if care is not taken.
In the videos I was sent, military men were assaulted and one was murdered, also, military men assaulted and the citizens they are meant to protect while upholding the law.
It's inhuman for any security operative to treat any citizen like animal and it's inhuman for citizens to attack security operatives.
Without taking sides, it's a known fact in Nigeria that anyone in authority either small or big uses the power on the less privilege ones but in an era where hooligans are becoming increased, a counter action can't be far fetched as it can be found in a situation where a ram being pushed to the wall turns to fight back.
On one hand, our military men and police officers are known to always take advantage of the weak probably they get intoxicated because of the uniform they wear and gun they carry but frustrated person seeing gun(s) can still act and this can be seen in a video where a guy observing a punishment from a soldier punched the soldier despite him holding a gun, that is what frustration and desperation can lead to. I saw punishment given to some people and I said it was too much because they might never be the same after the punishment, so why can't the security men uphold the law with caution? Why acting inhuman while trying to follow orders?
On the other hand, I strongly condemn the citizens who brutally murdered a soldier who only tried to enforce the law. The mob attacked two soldiers, one was murdered and the other was rescued by some youths in the community. The directive of the state and federal government is for everyone to stay indoor with only an exception to specific workers and these military men with the paramilitary men are to enforce and uphold the law, so why should they be killed? I believe after covid-19, we still need these people to be alive so that they can adequately protect us and fight insurgents but what will happen if we get them all killed?
Both the security men and the citizens are all human so why are we treating one another so badly? Must a security man kill a citizen while upholding the law? Must the citizens kill security men while flaunting the law or expressing our grievances?
It will be bad if we get protected against covid-19 and end up dying in the hands of those sent to uphold the law, it will be so disastrous and it will be bad if our soldiers who were not killed at the war front get killed in the community.
Please let's do everything in love and that's how we can survive this together.
Thanks.
