LATEST FROM UNIMEDTHC ONDO STATE. Written by Olabanji Joel

It's with greatest delight that I write to give an update about the sacked nurses at UNIMEDTH Ondo State. Earlier this year, Six (6) nurses were reportedly sacked at the state teaching hospital for rightfully demanding for what was theirs. After series of reports from the media and attention in the month of March, the nurses who were sacked for requesting for their unpaid salaries which wasn't paid for months were asked to write an apology. The report gotten from a worker in the hospital said the six wrote the apology letter despite doing nothing wrong but they had to write because both the hospital nursing association and the state nursing association seems helpless and all they could do was to write an apology for demanding for their right. From a true source, out of the 6 sacked nurses, five (5) were called back and the last person who is believed by the management to be the major voice and organiser of the protest wasn't called back whereas the protest was a joint agreement made by all the aggrieved workers with unpaid salaries. Report came in that he will also resume this week but he has not been called and probably has no hope of being called back. For now, the unit National Association of Nursing and Midwifery has not duly communicated with the members of staff as regards the happenings in the hospital and the actions taken to ensure the payment of the unpaid salaries. A nurse from the hospital said he hope the nurses will be called back with their salaries paid in full but it's going around the hospital that the management won't pay them because they didn't work throughout the period they were sacked and it will be taken as leave of absence without pay. The management of the hospital and the state government still need to clear the air in respect to the hardship faced by the nurses at the facility and also plan to ensure a better life for the nurses. Note: The nurses are still being owed four (4) months salaries and also had a pay cut of #33,000 from their last salary despite being overworked. 1. Is there a problem in asking for ones right, why are people so cruel most especially to Nurses? I hope justice can be done concerning the matter
