MARRIAGE; A RELATIONSHIP THAT HAS A BEGINNING WITH ONLY DEATH BEING THE END OF IT. Olabanji Joel

A short write up coming from a lesson learnt from an old couple. The day my fears about getting it wrong in marriage increasingly skyrocketed started the day a woman who has been married to her husband for more than 45years who got is now sick said "Please tell the maid to take my husband's plate outside immediately once he is done eating, I get irritated when I see his plate because of the way he eats, his plate should be washed outside and not in my kitchen". 🙇🏽‍♂️🙇🏽‍♂️🙇🏽‍♂️🙇🏽‍♂️ Over the years, I have been learning for the families around me but it was shocked because I believe being together for 45years should have made each other's habits and state things to be seen as usual and nothing should come as an irritant. Since marriage is a long lasting relationship, marrying wrong will be so disastrous. While searching for a husband or a wife, prayers alongside all senses are needed to study and assess, it's not a thing one can opt out from anytime, the two will forever need themselves starting from the minute they get married to the day death will bring them apart. Seeing a wrong person and marrying the person with the mindset of changing the individual is like a deliberate decision to forever be imprisoned. Let's be deliberate to have a home that will forever be filled with joy and not regrets. A peaceful home begets successful children, an instable home begets irresponsible children with everlasting sorrow. Olabanji Joel writing from a deep thought.

In my three years of marriage and what I have seen of marriages around me, I have come to realize that every day is an opportunity to celebrate love, foster understanding, practice forgiveness, and make sacrifices. Contrary to the notion that all you need for a successful marriage is love, I have learned that it takes intentional effort and investment from both partners. Sacrifices and forgiveness are just as crucial as love in making a marriage last, peaceful, and happy. Marriage is often romanticized, but the reality is that it requires hard work and dedication, which many marriage speakers tend not to speak about. Yesterday, I discharged a very demanding patient home. As she was about to leave the ward with her daughter, she called me over for a hug and expressed her gratitude. She told her daughter that I was a good nurse and was happy that I was part of her care team throughout her hospital stay. This gesture hit me differently, and it motivated me to do even more for my patients. As an adult with family responsibilities, I have come to realize that my profession is not just a job but a source of sustenance. I have learned to prioritize my role as a nurse above every thing I was actively doing before having a family, and the appreciation from patients like this one means a lot to me. Recently, I had a conversation with my cousin, and I shared with him that the only thing that can get under my skin is being told I am not good at my job because I see it as a threat to my source of livelihood and if genuinely done, I see it as a push to improve myself.
