NIGERIA; A country "in" abundance but citizens living in lack by Olabanji Joel.
Nigeria is a blessed nation, a place filled with best brains, minds and strength. A country with fertile lands for agriculture and weather that support the growth of various plants, a nation with what it takes to rear animals of various kinds, water to adequately irrigate the farmlands and provide drinkable water for the animals. The marshy areas with the deserts contribute to the well balanced eco-system. The bush animals has always been blessings, what about the sea foods? can I forget the numerous mineral resources? What about the tourism centres and nice places with best views? The population is also more of a blessing than a curse. Is there any good thing to make life better that can't be found in Nigeria? Maybe just few things. Don't we have it all in Nigeria? Nigeria has indeed been predestined to be a great nation.
God has blessed this country and we have all it takes to be the greatest nation in the world. It saddens me to see the so blessed nation with majority of her citizens living in poverty, no stable power supply, no infrastructure, no employment and the best brains due to frustration move to other countries where their brains will be well utilized, appreciated and get their dreams achieved.
Nigeria under proper leadership would have been heaven on earth for us, it wouldn't be a place where all our problems will be shifted to the devil, the leaders are more devilish than the devil himself. It's not surprising we are very religious without development, It is not God's plan for us to be like this, he has given us all we need to be great, we have all it takes to feed nations, we were never created as a nation to be fed by others. It's bad leadership that has made it seem like there isn't God for there is God who is the supreme being and the creator of the world, he has created us well but he won't do what he has given us the ability to do ourselves.
I wonder why a country with trees all over will import toothpick from a country not having as many trees as us. Nigeria with fertile lands in many parts of of the country import even those things that will grow well on her own soil. Nigeria with petroleum in large quantity even sells the product in high price to those in the country while those who purchase from us enjoy it more. I wonder why my nation so blessed to bless others has been known as one at the receiving end. A country with little or nothing to contribute to the global development despite the blessings of God to be a country to be depended on by others.
Ki lo n fa ti Omo Eleran n je eegun (why is the child of a meat seller eating bone)? A country filled with milk and honey finding it difficult to afford these things.
Selfishness, greed, covetousness, dishonesty, hypocrisy, laziness, irresponsibility, ignorance, wickedness, disunity, lying, over sabi, Illiteracy etc has finished the nation and God's plan for this country has been changed by man's action. WHY SHOULD THE COUNTRY WITH ABUNDANCE OF RESOURCES BE LIKE ONE WITH LIMITED RESOURCES?
I fear if we don't get it right when choosing our leaders on time, then the story might be "there was once a Nigeria".
To be a Nigerian is great, but to live in Nigeria of today is hell, a dream killer and generation destroyer.
