EFFECT OF INTEGRITY ON ADHERENCE TO COVID-19 DIRECTIVES by Olabanji Joel

I don't blame those who believe Covid-19 doesn't exist in Nigeria. Assuming i am not an health worker, it would have been difficult for me to have believed too. The government has failed to show us videos and pictures of thousands of confirmed patients as it is being done in developed countries. Is Nigeria Covid-19 different? Many are claiming that the government is using this Covid-19 crisis to embezzle money, is the claim true or false? Various donations were made to the government to combat Covid-19.Even at that, the poor people in the country could not get a proper quantity and supply of food during the lockdown. There was lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and FCT but the government shared palliatives at Zamfara, Nassarawa and some Northern part of the country, Does that make any sense? Despite the donations from various individuals, organisations, international bodies and countries, the country still borrowed $3.4bn from IMF despite the fall in the fuel market and increasing debt of the nation. Abacha's loot that was recovered last year was reportedly spent on the poor Nigerians. Who are the poor Nigerians? Schools feeding progrm while the students are at home has commenced, who are the children benefiting from this? We heard about money and valuables that has been recovered from ex-politicians but we have never heard about the use of the recorved loot. Where is the money and the valuables? Manipulation of the 2019 election result, injustice, one sided battle against crime, disregard to the rule of law, Imo state and Kogi state 2020 gubernatorial election, all forms of audio projects and activities, #5.5bn vehicle for the NASS members and various money thatwas disbursed but not felt by the economy has made the trust of a common man in this government shattered The claim of integrity and the effect of the past trust on our economy has made many not to have trust and hope in the government anymore. I will support my points with quotes on trust and integrity. People with integrity do what they say they are going to do. Others have excuses. - Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Since democracy, the development of the country has been crawling and not moving with the increasing population. The present government in 2014/15 came with the claim of having integrity and are ready to change things for better which made many wishing for a better nation to cast votes and support which made this government to win the election which led to the victory over the sitting president it is so unfortunate that ever since the emergence of this government, it has been something different from what they said, a total deviation from the kind of change they promised. The have been feeding Nigerians with excuses and has failed to successfully do a single thing from what they promised to do in 2014. They failed to take responsibility for their failings and instead boldly support the huge failure with claims that they are doing well. What a shameless administration!. "Conduct reveals character, and we best understand integrity when we see it lived out in a person’s life" - Charles H. Dyer. The life of our leaders has revealed that they lack ability to conduct an organisation to attain success. The present government with all means want to silence all oppositions and even the media, a character of a tyrant ultimately being displayed. The integrity that brought them in was all a false claim because they have not lived up to the claim. A government that has borrowed the future of the nation and sinking the nation in the sea of debt without a single recorded success in any sector. The government that came in as a sheep but has an inner character of a beast. “ I'm not upset that you lied to me, I'm upset that from now on I can't believe you" - Friedrich Nietzsche. From this quote, the reason why the government can never be trusted again has clearly been stated. A government that came in on a glorious note with all hopes high has greatly disappointed the citizens and has fed us all with lies and propagandas. They failed to provide employment, security, better health care system, better roads, improved electricity, improved valuation of naira, better and cheaper education etc. We only hear billions of money in dollars being released or borrowed but the impact of the money has never been felt by the citizens because it has never been used to better the economy. I say, relooting the loot is what our leaders are doing currently. Various publications on misappropriation of fund, lies, stealing of the highest order, openly and shamelessly talking about irrelevant programs with billions being spent on it and never taking responsibility for actions has made many to lose hope and trust in the government. How can the citizens trust a government that has never said the truth? How can the government trust a government which has its foundation laid on propaganda? How can Nigerian trust a government with high rate of corrupt practices? How can the citizens trust a government that has never taken responsibility for anything? How can citizens trust a government that has excuses for all her shortcomings? How can the citizens trust a government that has only been releasing figures without adequate evidences or proof to back the numbers. Don't blame the citizens acting due to the pains that trust has inflicted on us. Blame the government that has shattered the hope of the citizens and has broken many persons heart. Can you trust anything from a known liar? The government should try to make the country better as they said and stop giving excuses despite huge borrowing. DON'T BLAME THE CITIZENS, BLAME THE FAILED GOVERNMENT THAT CAN'T BUILD TRUST AFTER 5YEARS OF BEING IN POWER. By Olabanji Joel A Nurse, Writer and Socialist. Edited by Anonymous
