THE STATE OF MY COUNTRY by Olabanji Joel

The state of my country today is becoming an unbecoming, inflation is what we have been battling with for months now, the country with high poverty rate now has almost all goods selling at high price, this means poor masses has been ruled out of survival, even onions has become so expensive that it's only the rich who can afford it prepare meal with it.

Following the killing of peaceful protesters at Lekki tollgate, it is now evident to all that our government are more after their gains, they value their gains more than the lives of the citizens they are governing but it has also been truly established that power belong to the youths.

I am not expecting anything short of a leaderless revolution soon because the hardship in the country is getting increased daily, there are many jobless graduates, there are many jobless artisans and there are many youths whose future has been truncated due to their indulgence in hard drugs and practices which frustration and joblessness led them into.

The most ridiculous thing is the consistent spike in the prices of food items which is an essential commodity, the government has failed to identity reason behind this increase and proffer solutions, even locally produced food items such as garri and yam are now unaffordable for the poor, therefore, what is the hope of a poor man?

An hungry man is said to be an angry man, what hunger is birthing now in the country is a threat to the peace in this country, tackling these births of criminal acts without it's initial pathway to conception being tackled will in no way reduce crime, moreover we all know that problems are best solved when tackled from the source so, why is there neglect of the source of our problems in this country?!

The present state of our country reveals the incapability of our leader(s), these set of leaders we have today have failed us, they have shown highest form of irresponsibility, they have been made incapacitated by problems they were elected to solve, their failures has covered the nation, even the domestic animals in our homes are feeling it.

Should we have left the country in the hands of the former president who was voted out? Should we have ensured the continuity of the previous political party? These are the questions in the lips of many.

Why can't we protest against fuel hike and increase prices of commodities? Why can't we stand up against insecurity, unemployment, poverty, bad health system, bad infrastructure, bad power supply, consistent ASUU strike, bad welfarism for civil servants, bogus pay for politicians and bad governance as a whole? WHY HAVE WE ALLOWED THE TYRANT TO RULE IN PEACE WHEN HIS RULE HAS CAUSED US NO PEACE?!

What can be done to redeem the state of my country?! Can the deaf politicians hear our cry? Can the blind leaders see us?! Can Nigeria be great again?!
