NIGERIANS ARE NIGERIA. Written by Olabanji Joel

The retrogression and disintegration of Nigeria is no longer a news, the failed leadership is likewise no longer a news but it is something we don't want to continue living with. Nigeria will surely be a once upon a time country if nepotism continues, nepotistic behavior from our elected president is the reason why there are voices calling for a division in the country.

While noting that failed leadership has caused us so much over the years, I would like to make mention of what we mean by Nigeria. Nigeria as a country simply means Nigerians; for the citizens and the inhabitant here in the country makes Nigeria an existing country, without us there won't be a country and without us there won't be failed leaders, for amongst us comes our leaders at various sectors. The corruption in Nigeria is not just from the political office holders, it is something that touches every sector and even our existence in this country, it is now a norm where office leaders can boldly come out to speak on why their corrupt actions must be made to continue or even give reasons why they have been wallowing in corruption.

Since we the citizens are Nigeria then we must bear it in "Mind" that we must at every place we meet ourselves contribute to the development of the country and let the change start from us.  If Nigeria will be the country of our dreams, we all must stop dreaming and start taking actions to making the dream a reality because if this country continues this way, Nigeria will be a thing of the past and even the new countries would still end up having people who constituted Nigeria, same mindset, same character and eventually same result (corruption).

Nigerians are Nigeria, we are seeing the results of our actions which include what we do upon the soil the country, do amongst one another and to one another and what we do as we wake every day. We will keep on wailing if there is no change of attitude from both we the followers and our leaders but it has to start with the followers because we are more than those leading us, we determine those who lead and we can democratically determine how far we want them to lead us. Together, an irresponsible and incompetent leader can be impeached only if we the followers speak with one voice (even if all can't speak with one voice, a majority is enough).

It is so painful that a country full of youths with strength, knowledge and intellect can be in the present state we are in now, like why have we allowed it get this bad? Are the youths now ready to take responsibility or comfortable with what is happening or probably just staying as noise makers? Nigerians are Nigeria and the youths are Nigeria, we shook the country with a protest last year and if it is needed for the country to be better then we can shake the country again, though some people died from the massacre ordered by the commander in chief and they have not gotten justice, we could start with this, shake the country even harder and start seeing how our supposed leaders will rectify their wrongs. Truly, we have our fears but the leaders have greater fears and only if we understand this are we going to seize the opportunity to letting them know that we own the nation.

IF WE FAIL TO SEE OURSELVES AS NIGERIA, WE WILL FAIL TO SEE A NEED WHY WE MUST MAKE THE COUNTRY BETTER, WHAT WE GIVE TO THE LAND IS WHAT THE LAND WILL GIVE BACK TO US DURING HARVEST. Attitudinal change at all levels is required to make Nigeria a country we so desire. Thanks
