NMCN SILENT ON THE EXAMINATION BOOKLETS FOUND AT AN IMPROPER LOCATION; No communication/update from the leadership of NMCN. Written by Olabanji Joel

02/04/2021

On the 12th of March 2021, I wrote a report concerning the heaps of examination booklets found with an individual selling suya. Following the publication of the report, it was brought to my notice that the leadership of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria had begun work to discover the person behind the ridiculous act and recover the booklets in circulation. On the 16th of March, 2021, I wrote another report about the feedback from the council and also what we expect from the council. In the second report, it was requested that the council should give us a feedback on the issue in two weeks and also expose the perpetrator(s) of this ridiculous act and anything otherwise will be termed a cover up from the council.

It will interest all to know that today, 2nd of April, 2021 makes it three weeks since the first publication on this matter was made and till date, no other feedback or communication from the council as to who the perpetrator is or what has been done to the person or those in the department where this documents got out. The two weeks given for press conference, communication and punishment has been exceeded and the mistrust we have in the leadership of the Nursing and Midwifery Council still lingers as they have once again shown it to all that the ridicule of Nursing profession by an in-house person doesn't shame them as much as it shame those of us they are leading, it seems they prefer maintaining the dignity of the person involved in this demeaning act than preserving the image and dignity of the profession.

In the second report which I wrote, it was stated that if the council fails to do something about this issue as they promised, the issue will be escalated to the mainstem media and the entire populace so that it would be promptly handled by probably the ministry of health and the neglect from the council leaders will be clearly noted with emphasis on deliberate aversion of punishment against the individual who has selfishly sold out the glory of the profession.

Lack of impulsion from the leaders of the Nursing Council and the nursing union has caused nursing to be stripped off her nobility, the profession has been dragged into the mud severally due to several factors from some nurses and bad eggs within the profession. On this note, we call on the leadership of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in a matter of urgency to stand for Nurses and protect the image of Nursing by exposing the culprit behind the Examining booklets found with the suya man, we hope our trust in the council and nursing union would be rejuvenated, we hope justice would be unbiasedly served.

While understanding that the council might have been busy with other things over the last three weeks, we hope to get communicated to about whom the perpetrator of the demeaning act is and the punishment for the individual. If nothing on done by 11:59pm on 9th of April, 2021, it means the council leadership want the news to get exposed to the world and also for the intervention of everyone both nurses and non nurses. We however don't want to drag the profession or the leaders of the profession in the mud but we hope not to get dared and be pushed to seeking for help ourselves.

Thank you and God bless
