UPDATE ON ST GREGORY HOSPITAL, ADO EKITI, A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL OWNED HOSPITAL BREEDING QUACKS AND RIDICULING THE NURSING PROFESSION. Report by Olabanji Joel

Last two weeks, the atrocities of the long existing private hospital in Ado Ekiti which was owned by a father and inherited by his son was exposed. The hospital has been into the act for over 25years without anyone checkmating it, they are so deep into the act that they see Nursing as nothing. While they bring down nursing to nothing, they uphold their profession high as the omini highest. It is good to note that the management of this hospital has over the years taken the advantage of young ones by training them to be quacks in order to use them as cheap labours knowing fully well that these ones will have their young age wasted doing something fruitless and earning almost nothing, the young ones are being told they are studying nursing but these trainers are aware they are just being used.

Following the report about the action, Ekiti State National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives took action immediately and here is the feedback.

"I write to inform you about the steps taken by NANNM Ekiti State on the issue of quackery in St. Gregory's Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

The Ekiti State Nursing and Midwifery Committee (which is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring the highest standard of Nursing and Midwifery practice and fighting Quackery) led by the State Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Akute Y.I. visited  St. Gregory Hospital Ado Ekiti on Friday, 14th September, 2021. The other members of the committee include Ekiti State NANNM Chairman, Comr. Fatomiluyi Kayode, Ekiti State NANNM Secretary, Comr. Fii Tornubari Samuel and DSP Adeoba of the Nigeria Police Force. The committee after interrogation of the management & staff of the hospital made findings and recommendations which has been forwarded to the Ministry of Health for further action". Anonymous.

The Ekiti State NANNM is still on the issue and the closure of the hospital so as to send a strong message to all other hospitals within the state and across the country breeding quacks, destroying the life of young ones and destroying the image of the profession.

The present CEO of the hospital and the man known for his usual act of ridiculing the profession

Also it has been found out that the wife of the present MD of the hospital is a Nurse working with FMC Ido Ekiti, an professional anesthetist Nurse who knows what nursing entails but could be said to have kept mum or benefitting from the illegal act of her husband. The populace should ask why she as a professional nurse can't work full time in the hospital to assist her husband if it's profitable and why they are using the youthful days of young ones to make money for themselves while the youthful days which the young ones should have used in  studying in the higher institution or learn a proper skill and get equipped is being wasted.

While we wait for more updates on this, it is good to appreciate Ekiti State NANNM executives for their swift action following the report, the actions taken and the follow up process by the union leadership is well appreciated and we hope all other state NANNM executives would work on all reports given to them as regards irregularities within the profession, outside the profession but affecting the image of the profession.

WE HOPE THE REPORT AND INVESTIGATION BY THE STATE NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COMMITTEE WON'T BE SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET AT THE STATE MINISTRY OF HEALTH, ALL HANDS ARE ON DECK TO SEE THAT THE GOOD IMAGE OF NURSING IS RESTORED AND ALL HOSPITALS AND PERSONS FOUND DEMEANING THE PROFESSION/PROFESSIONALS WILL NOT GO UNPUNISHED.
