OCTOBER 1ST; INDEPENDENCE DAY INDEED by Olabanji Joel

There is so much good which is meant to be celebrated "today" but the government of today has buried all the good and replaced them with hardship, poverty, killings, tyranny etc.


Independence day truly but the country is still held in captive by those ruling her, the citizens are enslaved by the leaders and the poor are serving the rich in hunger, many poor persons are even taking advantage of themselves despite having one common enemy which is poverty induced by bad governance. Independence day but still living in bondage created by our kinsmen, it looks as if the country is married to underdevelopment and massive  debt, two combined problems without a sensible link. Should a country be underdeveloped despite having huge debts? Where are the monies being borrowed? Where are the projects being done and why are the youths without job and the elderly living in penury?. So bad!


We smile not because the country makes us happy, it's because we have created an environment of happiness for ourselves. The leaders at various sectors in the country are feeding large on the sweat of the poor, the poor are going deeper in the mess of the rich.


Celebrating the independence of the country today means we are celebrating the killings, poverty, hardship, massacre, corruption, debt, destroyed economy, bad leadership, failed leadership, outdated constitution, wickedness, cluelessness and irresponsibility. We are celebrating Independence today but many citizens are being treated very bad by those meant to serve and protect us, we go out each day without an assurance of coming back home in a piece, we go to schools without an assurance of getting a good job, we move on our old bad roads with our mind up to God for a safe trip because of the danger caused by bad roads and criminals along our roads. INDEPENDEDNCE INDEED AS WE CONTINUE USING OUR MIGHT AND RESOURCES TO SERVE THOSE WHO ARE MEANT TO SERVE US WHILE WE LANGUISH IN POVERTY

WE CREATE A HAPPY ENVIRONMENT FOR OURSELVES, WE STAY HAPPY AND FOCUSED AMIDST ALL CHALLENGES, WE WON'T GIVE UP AND WE WON'T GIVE IN TO DESPAIR, WE STAND TALL AGAINST OUR CHALLENGES, WE WON'T ALLOW THE HAPPENINGS IN THE COUNTRY TO END US,WE STAND AGAINST ALL CORRUPTIONS AND OPPRESSIONS, WE HAVE THE KIND OF NATION WE DREAM OF, WE LIVE THE KIND OF LIFE WE HAVE ALWAYS DREAMT OF. WE STAND TALL AND GREAT NOT WITH THE HELP OF OUR FAILED LEADERS, BUT WITH THE HELP OF GOD COUPLED WITH DETERMINATION AND HARDWORK. WE ARE THE GREAT NIGERIANS!

In my three years of marriage and what I have seen of marriages around me, I have come to realize that every day is an opportunity to celebrate love, foster understanding, practice forgiveness, and make sacrifices. Contrary to the notion that all you need for a successful marriage is love, I have learned that it takes intentional effort and investment from both partners. Sacrifices and forgiveness are just as crucial as love in making a marriage last, peaceful, and happy. PRIORITIZING WHAT MATTERS by Olabanji Joel Orolugbagbe

Yesterday, I discharged a very demanding patient home. As she was about to leave the ward with her daughter, she called me over for a hug and expressed her gratitude. She told her daughter that I was a good nurse and was happy that I was part of her care team throughout her hospital stay. This gesture hit me differently, and it motivated me to do even more for my patients. As an adult with family responsibilities, I have come to realize that my profession is not just a job but a source of sustenance. I have learned to prioritize my role as a nurse above every thing I was actively doing before having a family, and the appreciation from patients like this one means a lot to me. Recently, I had a conversation with my cousin, and I shared with him that the only thing that can get under my skin is being told I am not good at my job because I see it as a threat to my source of livelihood and if genuinely done, I see it as a push to improve myself.
