THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR; SHE SAID I DO! by Olabanji Joel

On 23rd October 2021, the Honourable commissioner for youths and sports in Ogun State got married to his beautiful bride who is a Nurse.

Nurse Oluwaseyi is a beautiful Nurse born and brought up in Nigeria. Her mother happens to be a Nurse and she decided to follow her path. What more can a successful parent ask for to make her completely successful?

I am writing about this union not because the groom is a politician but because of the bride, my  professional colleague. Since the time of Gowon, the need for Nurses to participate in politics or have their spouses in politics has been seen to be one of the best ways to maintain the value of the profession and as well improve it. Gowon's wife used her office as the wife to the head state during her time to improve the welfarism and status of Nurses in Nigeria. However, the value of nurses and nursing which she improved then have been ridiculed so much that even those who went into politics have not done anything to improve the status of the profession over the years. Nursing, which was one of the most respected in those days has become what the government, chief medical directors and several health facility leaders treat as a second class health profession. Nursing which is the base and heart of the Health care on the ladder of authority in health has been relegated from her usual height to a low ground which is presently struggling to get a space with health technicians, community health extension workers, community officers, dental technicians, pharmacy technicians and other techs.

OLUWASEYI

My research about Oluwadare Kehinde AKA Hacco has made me to realize how kind, responsible, good hearted, knowledgeable in both politics and his profession. Honourable commissioner Oluwadare has been involved in politics right from his school days, he is an ambitious man with the love people at heart. There are principles he has always stood by and he still stand by these principles till this day and one of these is speaking the truth and helping the needy.


Nurses in Ogun state with many of them being youths are groaning in silence because of the ill treatment they receive from the DNS of the state and from the leadership of the profession. Two youths were inappropriately sacked from Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital last year by the hospital head as well as the nursing head and till this day have gotten no justice. These are people under the Ministry in which our Honourable commissioner is getting married to one of them today.  We hope with his influence and that of his wife, nurses in the state will have their value restored and the leaders of the profession intimidating the youths and frustrating those working in their facility will change or be changed thus, making the profession better in the state.

THE UNION BETWEEN DR. OLUWADARE KEHINDE AND NURSE OLUWASEYI AIYEGBUSI IS THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR

 A UNION OF LOVE THAT WILL YIELD POSITIVITY FOR THE COUPLES, THEIR BEING AND ALSO THEIR PROFESSION.

As a Colleague, I celebrate Nurse Oluwaseyi Juliana on this day. She is indeed a great woman with a beautiful heart, her greatness positioned her in a great place and has met a great man. Greatness attracts greatness.

In my three years of marriage and what I have seen of marriages around me, I have come to realize that every day is an opportunity to celebrate love, foster understanding, practice forgiveness, and make sacrifices. PRIORITIZING WHAT MATTERS by Olabanji Joel Orolugbagbe

Yesterday, I discharged a very demanding patient home. As she was about to leave the ward with her daughter, she called me over for a hug and expressed her gratitude. She told her daughter that I was a good nurse and was happy that I was part of her care team throughout her hospital stay. This gesture hit me differently, and it motivated me to do even more for my patients. As an adult with family responsibilities, I have come to realize that my profession is not just a job but a source of sustenance. I have learned to prioritize my role as a nurse above every thing I was actively doing before having a family, and the appreciation from patients like this one means a lot to me. Recently, I had a conversation with my cousin, and I shared with him that the only thing that can get under my skin is being told I am not good at my job because I see it as a threat to my source of livelihood and if genuinely done, I see it as a push to improve myself.
