THE ODOLE OWA CHIEFTANCY: A CALL FOR FAIRNESS by Olabanji Joel Orolugbagbe

The Odole Owa Controversy: A Call for Fairness and Due Process in Ijesa Leadership.

BY OLABANJI

I would like to comment or, rather, share my view regarding the ongoing feud between Odole Owa, High Chief Bola Orolugbagbe, and the king or some chiefs and aggrieved members of the Odole family. As a young man, I have realized that an individual who stands right with the determination to end a long-existing wrong will be hated by many people, including those he stands to fight for. It doesn't in any way mean that the individual is bad, but those who have been benefiting from the decadence of a system won't want the system to become better and will use all sorts of lies and allegations to fight back.

Royal High Chief, Adebola Orolugbagbe

Odole Owa Ile Ijesha

In several messages, both through press conferences and online live videos, Odole Bola Orolugbagbe has responded to all the allegations leveled against him and has requested concrete evidence to be brought forward, but till this day, none has been brought forward, aside from the letter from aggrieved members of the Odole family, which was purportedly posted online, filled with allegations without anything to authenticate the source and genuineness of the letter.

The letter written by unknown members of the Odole family against Odole Adebola Orolugbagbe through a Barrister

In this case, the committee set up by the king acted with deliberate haste to unduly remove the Odole Owa, Royal High Choef Adebbola Orolugbagbe, for reasons best known to them, without a fair hearing. It was said that he was invited, but he didn't honor the invitation. In any gathering of the elite, educated, and intellectuals, no judgment will be made against an individual who fails to honor a first call. Instead, another call would be put out to the person with a clear note stating the judgment that would follow if he fails to honor the invitation.

It seems the committee set up by the Owa Obokun of Ijesa was not set up for conflict resolution. Rather, it was a committee of the pained, aggrieved, unexposed, and illiterate ones who only cared about victimization and intimidation. Odole Bola Orolugbagbe has not in any way ridiculed the Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland in any of his videos or writings. This is simply a show of respect to the throne of the land. Instead, he has mentioned names of some people riding on the relationship with the king and the power of the king to fight all chiefs and those not in line with corruption.

It is so painful that instead of the committee to publish evidence against Royal High Chief Adebola Orolugbagbe, the committee has resorted to image tarnishing through their media person. Also, the media man working for the present king worked for the previous king and knew Odole Bola Orolugbagbe as the one whom all the family chose and celebrated when he was installed as the Odole Owa. Why is he now amongst those using the media to discredit a high chief he once celebrated? Is it just business for him, or is it for the growth of Ijesaland? I would say this is just to further support their ignorance of leadership, management, and conflict management.

Signed press release from the Odole Family in support of Odole Adebola Orolugbagbe

Odole Owa Adebola Orolugbagbe deserves a fair hearing and respect in all ways until he is found guilty. The selection of the new Odole and Onilaje is simply a confirmation that the committee members had their judgment in mind before the summons. Therefore, someone who would leak their assets and close his eyes to corruption was unduly selected. Without fair hearing, there is no judgment, and the committee set up by the Owa Obokun of Ijesa land is in no way bigger than the first-class chiefs in Ilesa, unless they all are represented in the committee.

Thank you.
