Value and Relevance: Olabanji Joel's Birthday

Image
Value and relevance are two things that goes together, there won't be relevance without value. It is important to know that people are valued differently because values in everyone differs but it's individual's responsibility to be valuable and grow to becoming acceptable by many for the values we have, the more the acceptance, the more the value and relevance.  I have realized we all seek relevance but not everyone has values for relevance, some have it but it has been buried by a factor or another and not until the values are  brought out to the public, sought after relevance will never be found. Value comes with responsibility but relevance comes with greater responsibilities, responsibilities to keep on being relevant and all means to keep standing tall especially when the person with the value is aware that several destinies are tied to one's actions and private life becomes invariably lost to the public. For all those seeking to be relevant, I urge us all to seek ...

A CALL ON OUR LEADERS IN NURSING by Olabanji Joel

Post basic nursing programme in anesthesia in Lagos state, I just saw this and was surprised. It is a good thing for those interested, I just hope they will be able to practice effectively after being trained because we have allowed Doctors to take over everything and many times we get pushed to the back even in things we have been trained for.  Imagine having this kind of course and several others at a post graduate level, the prestige it will bring upon the profession, the boldness and high self esteem it will give to all the specialist nurses. Imagine someone saying I have a diploma in anesthetic nursing and another saying I have a masters in anesthetic nursing. Imagine saying I have HND in Nursing and another saying I have BNSc. I just hope our leaders can think so much about the effect of their actions on the profession and the professionals. I hope we will get it right someday because nursing practice in Nigeria brings down self esteem of many of us which is the direct impact...

AT A TIME LIKE THIS WHEN THE COMPETITION IS HIGH, SUCCESS WON'T BE ACHIEVED WITHOUT CONSISTENCY By Olabanji Joel.

We are in a world of high competition amongst several kinds of businesses with several persons holding on to what they believe might make them successful. I have realized being the best in a chosen career doesn't guarantee success in that path, the market isn't for the best anymore but for the strong and smart ones who are ready to be consistent despite all challenges faced. No one genuinely becomes successful overnight, success comes from years of learning, unlearning, wins and fails with consistency despite all ups and downs. I have observed new trends amongst we youths. I realized we have the studying youths who have read several books about successful business men, we have attended several classes by motivational and public speakers on how to be successful, we are praying daily to God to make us successful but we are missing it somewhere which is the aspect of being consistent. Why not study important things from the great inventors and business men in the world? They might...

WHAT HAVING NO LEADER/LEADER WITH A VOICE HAS COST US IN NURSING. by Olabanji Joel.

Can we all see, from the pictures added to this write up that dental therapists and dental technologists(HND) are now above degree nurses not to even mention other health care professionals. I have always thought our own dear profession had only retrogressed to the 5th position in the health care industry  but it's all in my imagination because we are just a step ahead of the health care assistants. It is believed that we have a governing body in nursing which we pay into occasionally and we have an association which many persons pay dues to regularly but are these our leaders representing us well? While I believe we nurses in the profession have our part to play in making the profession well valued I still believe there is so much our leaders have to do. The external advertisement is from a teaching hospital in Enugu and I'm sure there is a nursing union in that hospital not to talk of the state and then national. What is the duty of a union if not to stand for the people they...
