THE FATE OF THE POOR by Olabanji Joel

This is indeed a hard time in the world, a time where no one knows what will happen when all these ends, lock down of states and countries going on around and all these are to curb the spread of Covid-19 but what's the fate of the poor? In a country like Nigeria, there is something which kills more than covid-19 but has not been tackled aggressively, let me say it has been handled with neglect and that is "HUNGER". Movement restrictions, states lock down, businesses are shut down, many personsTHANKS.lost their source of livelihood to this government policies. The reasons behind the policies has been made known to all and it's accepted because it's the only way to stop the pandemic but "what is the fate of the poor" who feed from hands to mouth daily? How will they survive? Some of these people even have illnesses unattended to because they are too poor to pay hospital bills so all they can do is just to work so as to be able to eat everyday and wait ...

FUNDS ARE COMING IN by Olabanji Joel

I can see funds trooping in to help curb the pandemic, it's all over the News, people are helping, agencies are helping and even the government released unbudgeted #15bn to Lagos state which is the epicenter of the pandemic. I will first praise the Lagos state Governor for his prompt interventions and regular updates, he is doing a good job and we pray to God to help so that success can be achieved soonest. Funds are coming in but I have my fears and it has to do with the rate of corruption in this country. I hope this pandemic won't be an excuse for our future to be looted the more, massive money is being pumped into the system this period but will it be used for the right course??!!! Will it get to the right destination??!! Will it be used by and for the appropriate persons??!! It's a good thing that billions of naira has been pumped out to fight Covid-19 but won't this cause some people benefiting from the present situation to sabotage the action of those who wan...

MIGHT OF COVID-19

Covid-19 also known as coronavirus is known by all to be a deadly disease and the most important thing is the curtail of the spread so please let's take adequate precautions and stop the pandemic. The might of this virus which I am so happy with is that it knows no bound, it can't be bribed with money, no rich man can fly out to get a better care, no one can get a better care which others can't get, no one is a second class citizen with this disease, no is safe here, we are all in this together and this includes all those who left the health care system in this country to rot away. There are so many back door happenings not known to the public as regards the number of people affected and those affected but I still have joy that this virus "knows no bound". Just imagine, what would have happened if the influential ones especially the Politicians in this sinking country will do with the masses money if they could travel out of the country to get a better care bu...

TALES OF THE NEWLY EMPLOYED NURSES WORKING AT UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE TEACHING HOSPITALS ONDO STATE- Olabanji Joel

Last year, some nurses were employed in batches, that is different months at the facility as the existing shortage of members of staff brought about the urgent employment of nurses. Following the employment, the rules in most of the Government institutions is that newly employed workers would work 3months before getting paid, within this 3months, their names is expected to be in the pay roll (I don't know why it should be so but it has long been like that and it will be later looked into, have we bothered to think about how the newly employed workers survive for 3months without getting paid?). The newly employed workers of the health institution worked for the laid down 3months without being paid but hoping to get paid after the stated 3months. However, the young health workers(focusing on Nurses)who were employed worked and didn't get paid even after 3months, still hoping, the Nurses who were employed saw themselves working for 6months, 5months, 4months and 3months depending ...

COVID-19 MESSAGE TO NURSES IN NIGERIA by Olabanji Joel

Covid-19 message to the Nurses in Nigeria by Olabanji Joel..... There are so many benefits attached to being responsible, though being responsible is measured with how one handles responsibilities but many more responsibilities will be bestowed on the tested and trusted responsible persons - Olabanji Joel. At this period of Covid-19 I will be so mean if I don't appreciate all health workers out there who are still available at the point of duty despite the suspension of various gatherings and activities even though the hazard allowance still remains five thousand naira (#5000). Nurses are at the front line of every health care system, first to get in contact with the patient and always with the patient, they are at a greater risk of being affected if there be an outbreak in the hospital. Let me point it out that some health professionals such as nurses working at Ondo State Teaching Hospital in Akure and Ondo town are working at this time without pay together with shortage of n...

TO ALL LEADERS, ASPIRING AND POTENTIAL LEADERS by Banji Joel

So many things comes alongside leadership, accepting responsibilities and delivering well is what a leader must do. Banji Joel It's more than just making noise, action is needed, for there to be a change then there must be actions and sacrifices. I have noticed many people want to be known, many want to be influential, many want to rise but few are ready to take up rarest responsibilities and face challenges. In fact, many want to challenge some wrongs but they want to do it while hiding or without directly announcing their stand so they won't be pointed to when things go wrong. Lol To be responsible, we all must stand up to our responsibilities, there's no leader without responsibility and no one worth being called a leader without being responsible. It's not about the title, position or noise making, it's about wisdom, determination, decisiveness, discipline, optimism, ability to differentiate the right from wrong, risk taking, sacrifice etc. Olabanji Joel I...

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE REGISTRAR NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL OF NIGERIA by Olabanji Joel. 08/03/2020

Alhaji Faruk Umah Abubakar Secretary-General/Registrar Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. I humbly greet you and appreciate your for good works and the development you have brought to Nursing since your appointment on 3rd October 2016. You have been praised by many and I join them to appreciate you today. More strength I pray sir. Amen. I have read about many reactions to my write up and I am glad at the reactions because it shows something is really wrong with Nursing and many are beginning to see it. I believe the main focus of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) should be working on the reasons why people are leaving the country and planning on means which will make people want to stay in the country. There's no way we will talk about the abnormal wave in the Nursing profession without a comparison to the normal wave surrounding the profession. Olabanji Joel As Nurses, many in the society look at us as one of the highest paid persons in the country but ...

A MESSAGE TO ALL NURSING LEADERS; Nursing in Nigeria in a devalued state. By Olabanji Joel

This write up is directed to the Nursing leaders in the country and the entire populace. Amidst all issues bothering Nursing in Nigeria, it saddens my heart to see the backwardness in the thinking of the Nursing leaders. Why should a right thinking person in this present time demean a profession that is still fighting so hard to stand upright amidst her pairs in the health sector? Many would say the youths are the problems in the Nation but I would say that the older people are the major problems because they occupy a larger proportion of the leadership and decision making positions in the country. Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) just sent a circular establishing a 2 year community Nursing program. The question is why should that happen now? Is that the way forward to stopping the Nurses leaving the country? Why should a right thinking leader demean his noble profession? Presently, the young Nurses are agitating for the integration of the Schools of Nursing into Col...
